CREATIVE WORKSHOPS

VIVES MAAKLAB

Everyone who wants to create something is welcome to the Maaklab! It is an open workshop where you can design tomorrow’s innovations alongside other creative spirits (students, professionals, entrepreneurs… all sorts!) An inspiring environment where you can test your ideas and meet other enthusiastic people. A great opportunity to network!

BUDA::LAB

Passively enjoying culture is fine, but if you’d rather get to work creatively yourself, we can only encourage this. Happily Kortrijk has just the right place for it! At BUDA::lab you can go to work with 3D-printers, a laser cutter, electronics and all kinds of hand tools. You can also access wood and metal workshops. In short, BUDA::lab has all the tools you need to convert your most fantastic ideas into tangible reality. Becoming a member costs you just €12 a year! You can also attend fascinating workshops, for example on screen printing, photography, leather work, etc. All that and more in the Buda Factory on the Dam.

HOWEST INDUSTRIAL DESIGN CENTER

A state-of-the-art place where young designers can learn the tricks of the trade: that’s the Howest Industrial Design Center. There are brainstorming corners and design studios, workshops, a model room, a materials library … all equipped with the latest technologies. Design nerds among you will need to plan a visit!

KORTRIJK ACADEMIE

If you’re itching to get to grips with the arts, the Academie is the place for you. The visual arts course offers you four hours of training a week in aspects of the visual arts. Just as for the architectural course, cartoons and digital make a fascinating addition to your ‘normal’ studies. You can also choose a course that runs for eight hours a week. Then you’ll also learn about technical aspects of the arts and will be encouraged to develop your own artistic path. There are workshops in sculpture, painting, photography and much more. Depending on the workshop, classes can be taken during the day, in the evenings or over the weekend. Interested? Check out our timetables and other info at www.kortrijk.be/academie.

LIBRARY

Show your student card for free membership of Kortrijk public library! As well as books, you can also borrow cartoons, games, films and music, and you can use our media PCs with adapted software for music, film and photo processing. There is an Open Learning centre, and a quiet study room in the exam period. For any research, you can use the extensive archives, including access to the GoPress digital newspaper archive. Exhibitions, lectures and workshops are held regularly. A student really can’t manage without membership of a local library, so get yourself to the Leiestraat!

TRANZIT YOUTH CENTRE

Tranzit offers a series of affordable workshops (+/- €25 for 5 classes). These include music (P.A., DJ, recording techniques, etc.) and urban sports (skating, free running, BMX, etc.). You can also book a rehearsal room, dance room, creative space or party room, or use the Urban Sports Park free of charge for skating, free running, BMX and scooter riding. Opening hours are posted each month on the USP-Tranzit Facebook page. If you’re mulling over an innovative project for young people with friends or fellow students, but lack resources, JC Tranzit can come to the rescue with a project subsidy. If you’d like more info about Tranzit, the workshops, project subsidies or how to book a room, go to www.jctranzit.be or take a look at their Facebook page!
